Exercise: Boxes and Cubes

Draw 9 boxes and cubes.

Subject matter: Boxes

  • Exercise 4: On one sheet of paper and following the steps used on the Cubes and Boxes webpages, draw a combination of nine boxes and cubes in 1 point perspective (above, on and below the eye level—right, left, and mid way in the line of sight). Do not erase the light lines that you begin with. Darken the "front plane" lines. See attached example. Because there are no measuring points, you will estimate the foreshortened pitches of the planes.

Post completed drawings by Thursday by 11:59 PM: Scan in and submit your drawings to the discussion board.

Provide feedback by Friday at 11:59 PM: Provide feedback to other members of the class. I will be providing feedback, but I’d like you to offer feedack also. In your feedback answer the following questions:

  • Are the drawings in proportion? Are the volumes correct?
  • Are the appropriate lines pointing to the vanishing point(s)?
