Alignment

Alignment, as a principle of design, is used to help place or organize the shapes within the format and give it a unified structure (i.e. shapes are placed horizontally and vertically, above and below each other). Graphic designers, for example, use grids as alignments within formats to help create stable and consistent structure.


The opposite of aligning shapes would be placing them randomly resulting in chaos.
