Week 13: Drawing From Life

Final Assignment: Composition from Life

Specifications

Subject matter: Composition arranged for the exercises this week.

  • Assignment 3: Choose one of your thumbnails and create a full 9"x12" line drawing of the the composition from the thumbnail’s station point and eye level. Scan the line drawing and submit it. Include with your drawing a photograph of the composition from its station point and eye level, for your Instructor to check proportions, etc. Be sure that you take the photo from the same position (station point) and eye level that you drew it from. DO NOT DRAW FROM YOUR PHOTO—DRAW FROM LIFE. (15 points)

  • Assignment 4: Finish the drawing by adding value. Scan it and submit the shaded drawing. Remember to pay close attention to the values. NOTE: A common mistake students make is to not get enough value range, particularly in the darks—a good composition generally has a “white” and a “black” with all the values in between. (15 points)

Size: 9"x12"

Media: Graphite or Charcoal
