Week 8: Exterior Perspective

Assignment 1-4: 1 and 2 Point Exteriors

Specifications

Subject matter: 1 point and 2 point exterior scenes of your choice.

  • Assignment 1:
Step 1: Take at least 4 photos of the same scene in 1 point perspective, changing the horizon line and center of vision each time (move higher or lower and left & right).
Step 2: Draw at least four thumbnails of a 1 point perspective street scene using the photos above.
Step 3: Post your completed thumbnails on the discussion board.
Step 4: View and comment on at least 2 other students' work.
  • Assignment 2: Follow the same steps as above, but this time, for a 2 point perspective scene. Post your completed drawing on the discussion board. Be sure to comment on at least 2 other students' work.
  • Assignment 3:
Step 1: Print out your most effective photo, that you will create a finished drawing from.
Step 2: Draw red lines on this photo - like you did for the Week 07 interior scenes, to find the horizon line and vanishing points. Remember, it is common to have to tape a blank page on the left and the right sides of your photo when doing this for 2 pt drawings, as your vanishing points may be off of the page.
Step 3: On a 9 x 12 piece of paper, draw your finished 1 point perspective street scene. Be creative: add or take things away to improve your design. Do not shade the drawing. Leave your construction lines. Add line variation to complete the drawing. Use your Micron pens to create emphasis, focal point, and atmospheric depth. Post your completed drawing on the discussion board. Include your reference photo that you drew the red lines on. Be sure to comment on at least 2 other students' work.
  • Assignment 4: Follow the same steps as above, but this time, for your 2 point perspective scene. Post your completed drawing on the discussion board. Include your reference photo that you drew the red lines on. Be sure to comment on at least 2 other students' work.

Note: To improve the composition you may want to add elements to the drawing that are not present in your photograph (i.e. people, flowerbeds, bicycles, your favorite car). If you choose to do this make sure that the photograph of the new element has an eye level consistent with the one in your original photograph.
