Project 4 Step 2 Part 1
In this video, we’re going to discuss getting the tagged content from our InDesign document into a document that will function as a format for designing our website. We begin by making a new document for the website: ‘File’ > ‘New’ > ‘Document.’ Change the ‘Indent’ to ‘Web,’ make the ‘Width’ 800 pixels wide and 3000 pixels tall. This will be the complete size of the document that we create. Make sure the ‘Column’ is set to 1, the ‘Gutter’ is set to 12, and we want to set the ‘Top,’ ‘Bottom,’ ‘Left,’ and ‘Right’ in the ‘Margins’ section all to 10.
The next thing we’ll do is create a place for the header of the document. Use the magnifying glass tool and zoom in close to the top of the document. Overlapping the outer line, use the box making tool, and make a box there at the top. After setting the box in the corner of the document, set the width to 800 and the height to 150. If you want, you can make this a color just so it’s easy to see. I’ll make my copy cyan.
Now, at the bottom, we’re going to add a footer. We’ll double click on the hand tool to zoom out. Then, zoom in on the bottom of the document. Set a box in the bottom left corner. We’ll set this box’s width also to 800 and the height 100. And I’ll make that yellow so it’s easier to see.
Double click on the hand tool to zoom out. Now, go back to the original article; the one that we tagged the other day – the one that you have paragraph and character styles created for. Select the text tool, and set a cursor in there. Click ‘Edit’ > ‘Select All.’ Copy all that, then go back to our InDesign document, create a text box, and paste it all into the text box. Don’t worry about the text box’s dimensions at this point, because we can adjust them later.
Get your document this far. Make sure that your paragraph and character style appear in the InDesign document where you pasted the text in.
