Lesson 13

Project

Project 03 Step 03
Typogram: Final

What are we doing?

Choose one concept to take to finish.

“Typography needs to be audible. Typography needs to be felt. Typography needs to be experienced.” —Helmut Schmid

Why are we doing it?

At some point in every project or job, a decision has to be made. There is always risk that the option picked will not result in the perfect design, but there isn’t time to take every concept to the required finish.

How are we going to do it?

Take a moment to review all previous sketches for the typogram. The question you are trying to answer is, “Which concept is the most unique with the greatest visual meaning?” Choose one direction. With one idea, explore the possibilities widely and deeply.

Once the typogram is complete, it is a good exercise to print it out and check the kerning and the shapes off screen. Watch out for gaps or awkward shapes made from overlaps. Make any necessary adjustments to your digital file.

Once you have completed the project, write a blog post about finalizing the design. What challenges did you face? How did you solve them? Include a jpeg of your final typogram. When exporting the image as a jpeg, include the whole 11 x 8.5 inch page so that we can see how the finished typogram was placed.

Process Blog Post

After you have completed all of the steps listed above for this lesson, you are ready to complete your process blog post. Blogposts should be structured like a presentation with a beginning, middle and end. Each step will involve it's own process and its own unique challenges and successes. Introduce the assignment, talk about what worked for you and what didn't, explain which of your solutions are working using design principles to back it up. If you have specific questions about how to move forward, you can ask them in the blogpost.

Please include the following in your blog post:

Once the Process Blog Post is complete, submit a link to the post in I-Learn. To submit the link in I-Learn, click P3S3 link in the left navigation and then click on the Open button at the bottom of the I-Learn window.

After you have submitted your assignment in I-Learn, you will need to provide feedback to your team members in WordPress. Your feedback to team members will be on the following areas:

You should list the item, your rating, and any comments you had to help your team member improve. Your feedback on process blog posts will not be used as part of their grade but will help you to teach one another to improve their work.
