Lesson 9

Project

Project 02 Step 05
Monogram & Stationery: Stationery Refinements

What are we doing?

Refine your stationery system using the information from the class and team critiques. All of the information on the cards should be correct.

Why are we doing it?

Each piece of a stationery system has an intended purpose. The letter should identify the writer and who they represent. It should also contain the information necessary to reply to the writer. A stationery letter is usually used by several individuals in a company, so it is not necessary to include the name and title of the writer. The envelope is for use in the mail. It is also for general company use. The business card is the smallest and most complex part of a stationery system. It is also for general company use. It is used to briefly introduce the company in a very small space.

How are we going to do it?

Complete all three pieces of the stationery system. Print them out at full-size and in color. Trim them to the actual size and arrange and mount them on a 16 x 20 inch black core matte board (horizontal).

The letter should include:

The envelope should include:

The business card should contain:

Process Blog Post

After you have completed all of the steps listed above for this lesson, you are ready to complete your process blog post. Blogposts should be structured like a presentation with a beginning, middle and end. Each step will involve it's own process and its own unique challenges and successes. Introduce the assignment, talk about what worked for you and what didn't, explain which of your solutions are working using design principles to back it up. If you have specific questions about how to move forward, you can ask them in the blogpost.

Please include the following in your blog post:

Once the Process Blog Post is complete, submit a link to the post in I-Learn. To submit the link in I-Learn, click P2S5 link in the left navigation and then click on the Open button at the bottom of the I-Learn window.

After you have submitted your assignment in I-Learn, you will need to provide feedback to your team members in WordPress. Your feedback to team members will be on the following areas:

You should list the item, your rating, and any comments you had to help your team member improve. Your feedback on process blog posts will not be used as part of their grade but will help you to teach one another to improve their work.

Exercise

Space and Meaning

You can express the meaning of a word or an idea through the spacing, sizing, and placement of letters on the page. Designers often think this way when creating logotypes, posters, or editorial headlines. (You can see examples in your text on pgs. 106–107.)

Choose a word that expresses a physical process, such as “disruption,” “expansion,” or “migration.” Using Futura, create a 5.5 x 5.5 inch composition expressing the word with spacing, sizing, and placement.

Sketch to explore your options, complete one final composition in Adobe Illustrator, and then place it in Adobe InDesign.

Write a blog post with a jpeg of your image.

Submit the URL for the Exercise Blog Post in I-Learn by clicking on the "Open" button below and pasting your blog page URL in the space provided. Then, click submit.
